The Advanced Research and Analytics (ARA) organization of UnitedHealthcare delivers analytic services and solutions which support all aspects of UHC operations from intelligent claims adjudication, identification of fraud/waste/abuse, improved member/provider experience, clinical intelligence, and more. We bring advanced Robotic Process Automation, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data to turn healthcare data into information that improves the lives of our members, providers and the healthcare systems as a whole.

The Director of Technology Data Science & Big Data is responsible for defining and leading a technology strategy that advances machine learning, automation and big data capabilities across UnitedHealthcare. The role will ensure the successful deployment and management of business technology solutions and applications, analytical technology solutions, consult with internal customer teams, manage technology solutions portfolios, and identify new technology approaches to solve business problems with a strong focus on leveraging enterprise data. Successful candidates would be able to combine their technical expertise with the ability to architect, deploy, and oversee integrated analytics/business technology solutions.

Daily responsibilities include continued innovation and development of our analytics, automation and big data platforms, development and execution of our data strategy, managing internal engagements, meeting project and deliverable timelines, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of deliverables. Additional responsibilities involve working with Analytics Directors on staffing needs, strategic technology trend identification, monitoring project progress and completion, issue resolution and technical solutions related to data, data flow and advising on technology needs.

A strong candidate would have experience leading teams who apply advanced analytics technology (supporting predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence), big data technology, big data modeling and development, and automation technology. Experience in application development, analytical infrastructure development, and business solution consulting experience in the medical or pharmacy policy space, fraud-waste-abuse detection, marketing analytics and healthcare economics is also a plus.

Primary Responsibilities:
Deployment and oversight of end-to-end analytics and data technology capabilities
Management of big data infrastructure including data processes; acquisition, storage, transformation, and analysis
Establish technology strategies, team direction, resolve problems and provide guidance to members of own team
Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
Make product, service or process decisions likely to impact multiple groups of employees and/or customers (internal or external)
Collaborate with analytics practitioners, business analysts and methodologists to design and oversee the development of working prototypes of technical solutions
Facilitating the creation of complex statistical statements on healthcare data that measures various aspects of healthcare services, consumer episodes, and operational events
Prioritize and manage an analysis plan and several technical work streams in support of UHC initiatives and programs

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree
5+ years of experience in the development of enterprise solutions in the areas of Advanced analytics (predictive analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence)
5+ years of Big Data (Technology and Data Strategy)
5+ years of experience leading technology teams
1+ years of Automation (Robotic Process Automation)
Experience with analytical platform/data management platform integration
Experience with system integration of statistical software (e.g., SAS , SPSS, or R) with business applications
Familiarity with visualization capabilities such as D3.JS and Tableau
Experience working with data management platforms (such as Oracle, SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Mongo etc.)
Hands-On experience with Hadoop stack (MapReduce, Sqoop, Pig, Hive, Hbase, Flume)
Knowledge of NoSQL platforms (e.g., MongoDB, Couchbase, MarkLogic etc.)
Experience with automation capabilities such as UIPath or OpenSpan
Demonstrated experience consulting with executive management on technical solutions
Demonstrated experience setting and executing a technology strategy
Ability to navigate and drive results in a matrix environment
Ability to document and communicate complex technical concepts
Ability to recognize technical and analytical problems and solutions
Effective in fast-paced team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in computer science or related field
Technology, research or problem solving experience
Demonstrated experience with infrastructure planning, scaling, and administration, including demonstrated experience with Big Data platforms
Experience with healthcare data, specifically in Medicare and Medicaid analytics, provider and consumer analytics, and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) analytics
